Is this maybe a picture of Marion Dand?
The picture belongs to Beverly McLean, a granddaughter of John and Minnie (Dand) McRae. It was found behind another large picture of Catherine Anne Munroe (Mungo's first wife) that used to hang in the John McRae house.On the back of the picture is written "Mungo Dand Feversham".

William Robertson Dand and Marion (Wright) Dand

William Dand was a stonemason. He and Marion as well as their first four children were born in Scotland, just west of Dundee at a place called Fowlis Easter. They settled in Upper Canada, in pre Ontario times in 1850. William would have been about 31 years of age with Marion being three years younger. Their eldest child Margaret would have been about seven, James about five, William about four and Mungo (my great grandfather) I have been told was about 6 months old at that time.
A Gazetteer and Directory for the County of Grey written by: William Wye Smith in 1865-6 stated that the earliest settlers in this part of Osprey Township did not arrive until 1855. chose to live in this area for its similarity in geography to their homeland. The geography consisted of rocky soil with a noticeable lack of large trees. The quality of the land in this part of the township was inferior to the land in the southern part of the township. Also it is interesting to note they were allotted twice as many acres, than in those concessions and lots in the southern part of Osprey Township. William's son Mungo farmed on the 10th line, I don't know the lot number, but it would have probably been more suitable for farming.
