1st Viscount Astor of Hever Castle (1917)
A great grandson of John Jacob Astor (1763-1848) and son of John Jacob Astor III (1822-90, he settled in England and became a British subject.
He entered into journalism with the purchase of the Pall Mall Gazette, later followed by his acquisition of the London Sunday Observer.
His last years were marked by bitter prejudice against his former countrymen in America.
