Wiki: Lucretia Mott Wiki

Wife of ¤James Mott, she was active in the mid-nineteenth century in the Women's Rights movement, world peace, and anti-slavery issues. She was closely associated with Elizabeth Cady Stanton and ¤Susan B. Anthony. She joined with Stanton to call the 1848 Seneca Falls (NY) convention to discuss the "condition and rights of women".

At age 13 her parents placed her in a Quaker boarding school, Nine Partners, which was established in 1796 by Joseph Talbot in Millbrook, Dutchess County, NY. This school still exists as Oakwood School, in the Spackenkill precinct of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY -- still run by the Society of Friends.

After graduating from Nine Partners, Lucretia married one of the instructors, James Mott, and they both taught there for a number of years. One of the students upon whom they had particular influence was one Daniel Anthony -- future father of ¤Susan B. Anthony.
