HALSEY, William Frederick "Bull", Fleet Admiral [1882-1959] -- American naval officer
Contents: |
General Douglas MacArthur once called Admiral "Bull" Halsey "America's
greatest fighting admiral."
That he was.
His choice of brute force over fancy tactics earned him the sobriquet "Bull" from the press,
though he was "Bill" to his friends.
He served 43 years in the United States Navy,
from his 1904 Annapolis graduation to his retirement in 1947 as Admiral of the Fleet.
He served in two wars.

- Admiral William F. Halsey USN "Halsey's bellicose slogan was 'Kill Japs, Kill Japs, Kill more Japs.' His 'bloodthirstiness' was not just a put-on to gain headlines. He strongly believed that by denigrating the enemy he was counteracting the myth of Japanese martial superiority . . . "
