6th Earl of Leicester
a/k/a
Simon the RighteousHe is remembered for having called together a parliament including a House of Commons—although its influence on modern political structures is perhaps exaggerated. His attempts to curb royal power brought him in constant conflict with the crown, and, ultimately, were his undoing. He was killed at the battle of Evesham.
Long popularly revered as a martyr and a saint,
he was known as "Simon the Righteous".

1265/01 | Summoned both knights and burgesses to a Parliament thus founding the House of Commons |
1265/08 | Slain by Prince Edward's superior force at battle of Evesham, his body was mutilated and the limbs distributed around the realm |
