"Eliot has been described as 'an Arrow Collar man'. He is darkly handsome, sensitive, extremely subtle, always ironical. He wears his handkerchief in his cuff, drinks burgundy and sherry, plays chess (not so well), and is afraid of cows and high places. He prefers to mingle with the nobility, with church dignitaries and genteel spirits — the Woolfs, for example, or the Sitwells." [Kunitz & Haycraft, Twentieth Century Authors, (New York, 1942)]  -30-
