Note on Husband: Charles HOYLAND

Charles Hoyland was a brush manufacturer in West Bar Green, having inherited the business from his father. There is an entry in Whites 1857 Directory of Derbyshire: Sheffield Directory Page 855: "Hoyland, Chas, brush mfr, h: Paradise Square" and "Hoyland Bros, brush mfr: 16 Paradise Square". Also an entry for his father.

There is an entry in the Charles White Directory of Sheffield 1879. In the Sheffield Street Directory Page 304 under KENT ROAD is Victoria Road and "Hoyland Charles (brush manfr.)" and under QUEEN STREET is "Court 5 97 Charles Hoyland, brush manuftr".

There is a reference to Charles Hoyland in the section about one of his daughters, Hannah, at www.fredmayor.com. Her father is described as a wealthy brush manufacturer.

He died at home. The informant for the death certificate was Louisa Swain, a nurse who was present at his death. There is an obituary in the Sheffiled Independent newspaper in the edition of Monday 26th June 1905.25,28,29,30

At the 1861 Census, Hannah was governess to the Waddington family. Jonathon Waddington was a cotton spinner employing 300 people. At the time, Charles Hoyland was travelling in Lancashire selling his brush products and must have visited the Waddington family where he met, and in time married, Hannah.
