More Information About William Davis of Ohio and Arkansas

William Davis was born 1822/23 in Ohio, and died April 09, 1863 in Helena, Arkansas.  He married (1)
Delila Mills, March 12, 1844 in Monroe County, Ohio, daughter of Thomas Mills, She was born 1820 in Ohio,
and died April 1854 in Ohio. They had 4 children.  He married (2) Sarah Cline, April 24, 1856 in Perry, Monroe
County, Ohio, daughter of George Cline and Nancy Cline.  She was born August 21, 1818 in Monroe County
Ohio, and died February 8, 1865 in Caldwell Township, (later renamed Exline) Appanoose County, Iowa. 
they had one son.
 
William Davis served in the military during the Civil War.   Sergt. William Davis enlisted August 10, 1862
at Keokuk, Iowa, in The Iowa Volunteers, Company G, 36th Regiment..  Died April 9, 1863 at Helena,
Arkansas of Typhoid Fever.  We have a copy of the Surgeon Generals Office report, Records and Pension, 
Bureau, July 19, 1864.  Claims For Minor's Pension Bureau and Declaration of Minor Children for Pension. 
 
"Davis, William, age 39, Residence Cincinnati, Iowa, native of Ohio.  Enlisted August 11, 1862 as Fifth
Sergeant, Mustered October 4, 1862, Died of disease April 9, 1863, Helena, Arkansas.  Buried in National
Cemetery, Helena, Arkansas." 

Note:  The bodies of all the Union Soldiers were later moved to a cemetery in Kentucky, but we have not
been able to located which cemetery his remains now reside.  The Historical Society in Helena only knows
that all the Union Soldiers' bodies were moved.
