La Porte Cemetery

The special committee appointed by the Board of Trade to secure a cemetery for La Porte is composed of Messrs. J. N. Savage, J. P. Barker and O. H. Eggleston. In conjunction with Mr. K. I. Willis, these gentlemen held a consultation with Messrs. R. D. Gribble and T. W. Lee and practically determined on a site for the cemetery. It will cover an area of four blocks, south of Main street and west of Little Cedar Bayou, bounded perhaps by D street on the north and E street on the south. It is probable that all proceeds from sales of lots will be applied to grading the land, building fence, planting of trees and general improvement, for two years at least. The site is remote from the city and the prospects are that the city's development will be toward the bays for years to come. The close proximity of the bayou affords excellent drainage. In the opinion of many leading citizens the location is an admirable one.

[NOTE: This is not the location of the cemetery that is known as Cedarhurst, but it does show that has planning for a cemetery has begun. Whether anyone was actually buried at this location is unknown.]
