Reuben Spivey Passes Away
Well Known Madison Co. Citizen Died at Owens X Roads of
Heart Trouble
Reuben M. SPIVEY, well known in Madison County politics
and a highly respected resident of the Owens Cross Roads community died at his
residence there this morning at 5:30 o’clock after an illness of ten days with
heart trouble.
Mr. Spivey was a candidate for the office of sheriff in
the 1926 race and the votes polled for him bore testimony to a large following.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie SPIVEY; a son,
J. R. SPIVEY and three daughters, Miss Thelma SPIVEY, at home; Mrs. W. R.
ELLETT of Gurley and Mrs. E. R. STIVERS of Boonetown, N. J.; and brother, J. W.
SPIVEY of Owens Cross Roads and three sisters, Misses Mamie SPIVEY and Ellie
SPIVEY and Mrs. W. R. McKINNEY of Gurley.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at
two o’clock at the residence with interment in the Moon Cemetery. The Rev. Mr. BAKER will be the officiating
minister and Laughlin and Wood will be in charge of arrangements.
The following friends will serve as pallbearers; Robert
BAKER, J. H. CRAFT, A. H. ELLETT, Herman MAPLES, T. E. McKINNEY, Frank GLOVER,
T. D. PICKENS and John SNEAD.

Rites Wednesday For Mrs. Spivey
Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Mattie Jane
SPIVEY, 73, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Owens Cross Roads
Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mr. RICHEY officiating, and Laughlin-Service
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Spivey died at her home in Owens Cross Roads early
this morning.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. E. R. STIVERS of
New Jersey, Mrs. W. R. ELLETT of Gurley, Miss Thelma SPIVEY, at home; one son,
James R. SPIVEY of Owens Cross Roads; one sister, Mrs. J. W. CARPENTER; six
grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Harry CARPENTER, Woodrow
CARPENTER, Richard BRANUM, Allen MAPLES, Moody ELLETT, and Howard McKINNEY.
Honorary pallbearers include J. I. COBB, Wilson MANN,
Herman MAPLES, Dr. J. L. CARPENTER, Murphy McDUFF, T. D. PICKENS, A. H. ELLETT,
