Lewis D. Vann Funeral Held

Services Conducted Today For Aged Retired Preacher

 

Funeral Services were held at 2 o’clock this afternoon for Lewis D. VANN, 82, retired Baptist preacher, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. C. RICH, Owens Cross Roads, Route 1, at 3:15 o’clock yesterday afternoon.

 

The services were held at Galilee Baptist Church, Buggs Chapel, with Revs. Roy STONE and Henry BRANNUM officiating.  Burial was made in Moon Cemetery with Butler Brothers directing.

 

Members of the New Hope Masonic lodge served as honorary pallbearers and had charge of services at the grave. Active pallbearers were Kim MANN, Curtis MAPLES, Alonza SHUBERT, Robert BAKER, Alvie JONES and Virgil MEEKS.

 

Mr. Vann, who preached in Baptist churches for 50 years, is survived by two daughters, Mrs. RICH and Mrs. E. L. TREECE of Elon; one son R. D. VANN, Owens Cross Roads; two sisters, Mrs. A. A. VANN, Scottsboro, and Mrs. Nora MAPLES, Owens Cross Roads, Route 1; two brothers, J. H. VANN of Arkansas and Preston VANN of Texas.

 

He also leaves 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
