Funeral Is Held For Henry Smith

 

The funeral of Henry Columbus SMITH of Owens Cross Roads, who dropped dead yesterday morning at 9:30 o’clock while working in a cotton field on the L. K. KENNEDY farm, was conducted this afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at the Cave Springs Church.

 

The Rev. Mr. STEADMAN officiated, and interment in Moon Cemetery was conducted by Butler Brothers of New Hope.  Active pallbearers were L. K. KENNEDY, A. H. ELLIOTT [ELLETT], Doc McKENNEDY [KENNEDY], John SNEAD, Finis CRAFT and Amos GOSSETT.

 

The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie SMITH; seven daughters, Mrs. Lorene TALLEY, Owens Cross Roads; Mrs. Birdie PASCHL and Mrs. Dell Ruth BAKER, both of Chattanooga; Mrs. Annie Lou JEFFREY, Scottsboro; Miss Marie SMITH, at home; Mrs. Irene HASS of Pisgah and Mrs. Ethel JOHNSON of Hollywood.

 

Three of the five sons who survive are in Germany.  They are Matt SMITH, with the Sixth Cavalry Division; Fred SMITH, with the 325 Engineers; and Fate SMITH with the 311th Infantry.  The two sons at home are Paul SMITH and James SMITH.

 

Four half-brothers, four half-sisters, 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
