Mrs. A. J. Ikard Funeral Held

Services Conducted Today For Aged New Hope Resident

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Hester Clark IKARD, 89, wife of Andrew Jackson IKARD, who died at the residence in New Hope at 7 o’clock last night, were held today.

 

The services were conducted from Nebo Church with the Rev. Mr. JONES officiating at 11 o’clock.  Interment was made in Whitaker Cemetery with Laughlin-Service in charge of arrangements.

 

Active pallbearers were H. C. KENNAMER, A. A. CRAWLEY, Sam SHERRILL, T. R. MOON, G. L. HORNBUCKLE and Clarence HOWARD.

 

Honorary pallbearers included Dr. James CARPENTER, W. R. BEAL, W. K. DORAN, Dave WHITAKER, Dr. Julian HODGES and Ashford TODD.

 

Mrs. Ikard, who had be ill the past several years, is survived by her husband; three sons, T. H. IKARD, J. S. IKARD and J. J. IKARD, all of New Hope; one daughter, Mrs. J. C. CLICK, Elon; three sisters, Mrs. Beth DILWORTH and Mrs. Henry STEPHENS, both of New Hope, and Mrs. Dora KEEL, Macon, Ga.; one brother, John Henry CLARK, New Hope; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

 

Born in New Hope on September 8, 1848, Mrs. Ikard was the daughter of John Henry CLARK and Mary McKinney CLARK.

 

She was a member of the Methodist Church.
