JOEL HENDERSON GLOVER was born June 01, 1812 in Georgia, and died August 12, 1873 in Arkansas. He married (1) ELIZABETH COOK August 21, 1832 in Huntsville, Madison, Alabama, daughter of JOSIAH COOK and ELIZABETH ???. formerly of Elbert Co. GA and the grand-daughter of Francis Cook (who died in Elbert County, GA in bet. 1804 - 1813). His will was probated March 1, 1813. Josiah Cook's will was filed Nov. 12, 1833. In his will he names his wife, Elizabeth, Joel Glover, Effie Cook who married Samuel Howell, Pleasant Cook, Samuel Cook, Elijah Cook, Joel Cook, and Pamela Cook, an infant. Josiah Cook voted for delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Elbert Co. GA. along with Benjamin and James Glover. It is believed that there was an association between the Glover's and Cook's before they came to Madison County, AL. Joel married (2) DUBLY ANN DENTON about 1844. She was born 1825 in Jennings, Indiana.

In 1838 Elizabeth Cook (mother-in-law) deeded to Joel Glover land in Madison County, AL. In 1839, Elizabeth (wife) and Joel Glover sold this land to James Carpenter and also sold another tract of land to Jonathan Glover. About 1842, Joel and Elizabeth Cook Glover moved to Lamar Co. TX. It is not known what happen to Elizabeth. But in the 1850 Census Joel is married to Dubly Ann Denton. There are some indications that the Cook's (brothers and sisters if Elizabeth) may have moved with them. Elijah Cook married Elizabeth Henley Hamner July 12, 1832 in Madison County, AL. The couple had a son named William Frances Cook born November 29, 1848 in MO. The families moved about 1842 from Alabama, to Missouri/Arkansas, then to Texas. So Elizabeth Cook Glover likely died while in route to Texas.

Joel Glover was kin to the rest of the Glover's which settled in Madison County. However, it’s not known to which parents he belongs with. It is very likely that he was a son of James Glover (died in 1814-1815) in Madison County. He could be he male (15-20 years old) which is living with Benjamin Glover in 1830. There was a George Washington Glover (b. 1806 in GA), that lived in Madison County, and is found on the 1850 Carrol County, Tenn Census. George had a son named Joel Glover.

Of interest: On September 3, 1838, Samuel Renfrow and Elizabeth Glover (born 1818 in Alabama) applied for a license for marriage. The marriage was solemnized on September 6, 1838, by J. M. Glover (J.P.). The census of 1840, page 141, shows Samuel and his new wife living in the southern half of Madison County, Al. He apparently lived next door to a Joel Glover and family, who is between 20 and 30 years of age. So this Elizabeth Glover could be a sister to Joel Glover.

1840 Madison County, AL census:

Joel Glover 20-30

1 f 20-30

1 m 15-20

1 f under 5

1 m 5-10

1 m under 5

It is known that Joel and Elizabeth Cook Glover had only one daughter, so the young males in the 1840 census are believed to be children of Josiah and Elizabeth Cook. Note deed dated 28 Dec. 1837, from Elizabeth Cook to Joel Glover "for $40 and her maintenance during her life."
