John Glover was born about 1750 in Prince George's County, Maryland. Date and place of death are not known. Proof that he was a brother of Benjamin Glover is furnished by his affidavit to Benjamin's Application for Pension in Madison County, AL, in 1832.

John Glover a brother and resident of the said Benjamin Glover and a resident of said County of Madison makes oath that he was well acquainted with each expedition as above stated in the said Declaration of the said Benjamin and he states that he well remembers that he the said Benjamin did serve as militia a volunteer and in Virginia and North Carolina and as a militiaman in the said State of North Carolina from Wilkes County. And he here stated that he did render the services to the government as stated in his declaration every iota of it and he states the statement as to the expeditions, the time of services he knows to be true for he was his brother and he was either with him or near him during the time of the Revolution.

John Glover was also a soldier in the Revolutionary War. In 1781, he is listed in Raiford's County, received 228 acres, Wilkes County, N.C.; served 12 months. Left the service 2 May 1782; Tenth Regiment (N.C.), under Col. Abraham Shepard. (William Glover also served as a private under Capt. Shepard ~(Shepherd).

There apparently is no application for pension on this John Glover, according to the National Archives, Washington, D.C.

John Glover is listed on Tax List, 3 horses and 1 head cattle, Capt. Rowland Judd's District, Wilkes County, N.C.

6 March 1782, John and James Glover ordered to attend next court as Jurors.

1787:

10 July, Benjamin Glover executed a Power of Attorney to Carlton Kealing, Wilkes County, N.C. Among the witnesses was one John Brown. He is possibly John Brown who was the father-in-law of John Glover's daughter, Mary.

John Glover of Giles County, TN, purchased from James Glover of Madison County, AL, for $120, thirty (30) acres on south end of the quarter section on which the same James Glover lived (NE/4 Sll-5-1E). James Glover signed with an "X".

1819:

#724, Territorial Deed Books A-E, 1810-1819, Madison County, by Johnson 15 Feb., Gabriel Moore sold to George W. Sanders, 80 acres in S11 T_ Range 1W. Witnesses were George A. Glover, Sutton F. Allen, and JNO. A. GLOVER. (This John A. Glover has not been identified as the brother of Benjamin Glover, but again shows some association between Glovers and Allens.)

1824:

10 March, William Green and wife, Rachel, deeded to John Glover, John Neal, Joseph Elliot, Thomas King, and Absilon Cornelious, a lot for the Methodist Episcopal Church, beginning at the SW corner of the tract where William Green lives.

1824:

20 Aug. John Glover sold to Edward H. Vann, both of Madison County, AL, for $120 "part of the northeast quarter Sll-5-1E, containing 30 acres beg. at the SE corner of said quarter section and running west with the south boundary 120 poles, thus north 40 poles, thence east 120 poles thence south 40 poles to beginning."

Witnesses were James C. Grayson and Joel L. Rice. Ellender Glover, wife of John Glover, relinquishes her right of dower 20 Aug. 1824. D/R 16 Nov. 1825 and Rec. 21 Nov. 1825. (John Glover signed with an "X" - no signature block for Ellender.)

 

It is not known if John Glover went from Georgia to Giles County, TN, or to Madison County, AL. He evidently lived for a time in both states. He does not appear in the 1830 Madison County, AL census records. No record has been found for him in Giles County, Tennessee

Only the name of one child is known, the daughter Mary who married Meredith Brown and who had at least one child, John Brown.

 

There is a younger John Glover enumerated in the 1830 Madison County, AL, census (aged 20-30) with wife and young children' And there is a marriage license dated 4 Oct. 1817, for John Glover and Mary Young. Identity of this couple not known. (1830 Madison County, AL John Glover, 20-30; 1 m 10-15; 2 m 5-10; 1 m under 5; 1 f 30-40; 1 f 5-10; 2 f under 5.)
