He married September 21, 1811 in Elbert County, GA, ELIZABETH GLOVER (daughter of Benjamin GLOVER). She was born 1795 in Elbert, Georgia, and died 1872 in Alexandria Valley, Calhoun, Alabama. Richard Glover: Southern Advocate, Huntsville, AL. 25 June 1856. "Died on the 8th Mr. Richard Glover, age about 67 years. He was one of the oldest settlers in Madison County and was an honest upright man and good citizen, highly respected by all that knew him. He left a large number of relatives and friends."

In Madison County, AL, Richard Glover patented on 20 Oct. 1814, S3 T5S R1E, the E/2 of SE/4, 80.40 acres. On 4 Oct. 1830, he patented S10-5-2E, E/2 of NW/4, 80.11 acres, and W/2 of NW/4, 80.11 acres.

Logan R. Glover was appointed executor of the Last Will and Testament and was issued Letters Testamentary after giving bond on 5 Jan. 1857, with John McGaha and James N. Poore, his securities.

Last Will and Testament of Richard Glover, Deceased.

In the name of God, Amen: I Richard Glover of Madison County and State of Alabama do make and declare this my last will and testament in the manner following. First I resign my soul unto the hands of Almighty God hoping and believing in a remission of my sins by the mints and mediation of Jesus Christ’ And my body I commit to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my family at the burying place on my farm and one half acre at that place I wish to remain unsold for a public burying ground: And the balance of all my worldly estate, I give and devise as follows: First I bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Glover all I possess after my debts are paid during her lifetime, and at her death what is then left I want it equally divided between my children, Martha A. Ledbetter, Elizabeth C. Ledbetter, Polly B. Ledbetter deceased, children there mothers share, only one hundred dollars of their part to be given to my Daughter Nancy C. Glover, for taking care of them while small. Logan R. Glover and Nancy C. Glover are all the heirs: And lastly I do hereby appoint my son Logan R. Glover my executor of this my last will and testament. I witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 26th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty six.

Note: Wife Elizabeth probably died in 1872. Physician's Statement to Richard Glover from Isaac W. Sullivan shows all entries and charges itemized from May 10, 1856 through June 5, 1856. Statement included 16 visits and totaled $19.17. No medicine prescribed, and no clue as to type of illness. Paid 9 Jan. 1857.

Petition to sell land was filed 25 Sept. 1866 (Probate Court Minute Book 10, page 502). In this petition: Logan Glover filed the petition as JAMES GLOVER, Deceased. Logan was instructed to appear in the October Term with necessary estate papers. In the October Term, the petition was filed as RICHARD GLOVER, deceased.

It would appear that Richard's name was either JAMES RICHARD GLOVER or RICHARD JAMES GLOVER.

 

Richard Glover died at his residence in Madison County after having made his will. At the time of his death he possessed the following land in Madison County:

Public sale was held in Aug. 1867 on premises.

Frederick M. Bennett and William T. Bennett purchased NW/4 S10-5-2E for $1500 and have paid the purchase price in full.

Before me Ferdinand L. Hammond, Judge of Probate in and for said County, this day personally appeared Logan R. Glover, Executor of the Last Will and Testament of Richard Glover, late of said County, deceased, who upon being duly sworn on oath states that the foregoing account of the sales of the perishable property belonging to the Estate of the said Decedent, made by him as such Executor on sixteenth day of September 1856, -- is justly and truly set down as he verily believes.

Statement from G. W. Grayson 1861 - Tuition for grandchildren for 105 days at 10˘ per day or $20 per month - $10.50.

There is an interesting statement from D.H. Womack which was paid by L.R. Glover July 27, 1857, for services from 15 Feb. through Nov. 23, 1856.

Items include mending shoe for Joel, making shoes for John, Serey, half-soling and sewing eye seams for Lady, making fine shoes for Joel, fine shoes for little Nancy Glover, fine shoes for wife Nancy, 2 pair fine shoes. Other items are for days work by William, work by James, David and George, work by "myself". This work included harvesting wheat, harvest, cleaning out well, and picking cotton. Identity of James, David, William and George is not known.

Three daughters married Ledbetter men, sons of Ephrame and Hester Smith Ledbetter. See Ledbetters of Virginia and Alabama Dictionary of Biography for later generations.

Children of ELIZABETH GLOVER and RICHARD GLOVER are:

i. MARY POLLY B. GLOVER, b. between 1815 - 1820; d. before 1856.

ii. MARTHA ANN GLOVER, b. January 04, 1813, Georgia; d. May 15, 1861, Owens Cross Roads, Madison, Alabama.

iii. ELIZABETH CHAPPELL GLOVER, b. January 01, 1816, Madison County, Alabama; d. January 26, 1889, Madison County, Alabama.

iv. LOGAN RICHARD GLOVER, b. 1824, Owens Cross Roads, Madison, Alabama; d. January 1876, New Madison, Madison County, Alabama.

v. NANCY E. GLOVER, b. 1827, Owens Cross Roads, Madison, Alabama; d. July 22, 1889, Owens Cross Roads, Madison, Alabama. Listed on 1860 Census Madison County, AL Page 123 at 38 years old. Her father, Richard Glover, stipulated in his will that the children of his deceased daughter Polly B. (Mary) Ledbetter were to receive their mother's share of his estate, less $100 which was to go to "my daughter Nancy E. Glover for taking care of them while small".

Death Record #879, Nancy Glover, date of death 7-22-1888, b. AL, age 59, died of rheumatism, died and buried at Collier's. [She would have been 66 years old if birthdate is correct.]
