Mifflin County was not created until 1789 when it was formed from Cumberland and Northumberland counties. Prior to that time Fermanagh Township was in Cumberland County.(4)

    Martha Wright probably did not marry. In her will, proved May 20, 1864 in Juniata Co., Pennsylvania, she mentions no husband or children and leaves all her belongings to other relatives.1

4. Sarah Wright, (1.David1).

On January 20, 1809 Sarah petitioned the orphan's court in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania to appoint a guardian for her three children by Samuel Reader, her deceased husband. James Corran was appointed their guardian. Eight years later, the eldest son, William, then over 15 years of age, appeared before the court and requested James Knox, Esq. be appointed his guardian.1

    When he died William Wright was living in the home of his sister, Anna Maria, and her husband, William H. Jackson, in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

The 1850 United States Census for Juniata County, Pennsylvania, shows James Wright, with his wife Mary and seven children residing in Fermanagh Township.

Juniata was not established as a county until 1831; at that time Mifflintown became its county seat. Prior to 1831 the area was a part of Mifflin County.

James and his wife had eleven children; the seven listed here are those who grew to maturity. The family came to Shelby County, Ohio, in 1853.(7)

    Hiram Knox and his third wife, Frances Stewart, resided in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.1

Loughry, married 13 Nov 1838 in Indiana, Indiana Co., Pennsylvania,(12) born 13 Feb 1815 in Indiana, Indiana Co., Pennsylvania,2,12 (son of Joseph Loughry and Sarah Howard) died 24 Aug 1890 in Monticello, White Co., Indiana,2 buried in Old Monticello Cemetery, White Co., Indiana,12 occupation Merchant; Famer; Miller.1

Nelson: Nelson B. Loughry was the only child of Joseph and Sarah (Howard) Loughry. For several years after his marriage to Rachel Wright, he was a merchant in Blairsville, Indiana Co., Pennsylvania. He also served as Clerk of Indiana County for a number of years. He and his family removed to Indiana in 1855, first living in Lafayette in Tippecanoe County and moving to White County in 1860. They lived in Monon Township, where Nelson farmed, until 1872 when they moved to Monticello. Their farm served as a down payment on on a milling operation. The work was difficult because the mill's capacity was only 75 barrels a day, and it needed many improvements. With the able help of their son, Joseph Edward, they were able to work their way to success.1

    47. iii Clara W. Loughry, born 30 Aug 1844 in Saltsburg, Indiana Co., Pennsylvania,2,12 died 29 Jun 1917 in Logansport, Cass Co., Indiana,2,12 buried in Old Monticello Cemetery, White Co., Indiana.1

    She married James Harrison Edwards, married 4 Sep 1875,1,12 born 16 Mar 1839 in Columbus, Bartholomew Co., Indiana,2 (son of James Edwards and Sarah Edmonson Chenoweth) died 20 Aug 1892 in Mechanicsburg, Sangamon Co., Illinois,2,1 (see note 2).

    He married Sarah ("Sally") Kendall, married 3 May 1881,12 born 2 Feb 1854 in White Co., Indiana,2 (daughter of Charles W. Kendall and Mary Eliza Spencer) died 23 Feb 1937 in White Co., Indiana.2

Fourth Generation

34. George Wright, (10.James3, 2.Azariah2, 1.David1) born 10 Apr 1832 in Pennsylvania,5,(13) died 18 Dec 1913 in Eau Claire, Eau Clair Co., Wisconsin,(14),13 buried 21 Dec 1913 in Lake View Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin,13 occupation Millwright.

(On George Wright's Death Certificate, his father is listed as Thomas Wright; this must be in error, or perhaps Thomas was his father's first given or middle name.) For much of their lives, George Wright and his family resided in Chippewa County, Wisconsin.

He married Julia A. Taplin, born in Canada.

35. Nancy A. Wright, (10.James3, 2.Azariah2, 1.David1) born 5 May 1834 in Juniata Co., Pennsylvania,(15),(16) died 22 Mar 1918 in Logansport, Cass Co., Indiana,(17),(18) buried 24 Mar 1918 in Spring Creek Christian Church Cemetery, Cass Co., Indiana.17

Nancy A. Wright died the same morning as did her nine-day-old great granddaughter, Jean Frances Stewart, daughter of Paul L. Stewart and Brite F. Beall. Their obituaries appeared next to each other in the Logansport, Indiana Pharos-Reporter of March 22, 1918.

She married Robert Elder Stewart, married 18 Jun 1854 in Shelby Co., Ohio,(19) born 20 Mar 1832 in Harmony Twp., Clark Co., Ohio,16,(20) (son of Charles Stewart and Susanna Elder) died 11 Feb 1898 in Logansport, Cass Co., Indiana,(21),(22),(23) buried in Spring Creek Christian Church Cemetery, Cass Co., Indiana, occupation Carpenter & Cabinet Maker.

Robert: The 1860 United States Census for Indiana (p. 515) lists Robert Stewart, his wife, Nancy, and daughters Ella Iona and Mary S. Stewart as living in Eel Township in Cass County, Indiana. The 1880 United States Census for Cass County, Indiana (p. 20) lists this person as "Steward, Robert E." There the family is shown as living in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana.  According to the obituary in the newspaper, Robert left two sons and a daughter when he died. The sons would have been John and Charles L. Stewart.  Since Ella Iona and Mary S. had died, the daughter was Anna Stewart.  Robert's obituary states that he "had been ailing and almost entirely helpless for eight years, and death comes as a great relief in his case." He died early in the morning at his home at 1317 High Street in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana.

John Henry Stewart drove a circus wagon with an 8-horse hitch. This work took him to various parts of the country. While in California he met the woman who was to become his wife and settled in Los Angeles.

Inah: After her divorce, Iona Calvert did not remarry. For the last several years of her life, she lived with her son, Paul L. Stewart. She was living with him and his family at the time of her death. At that time, Paul L. Stewart was serving the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Paris, Missouri, as its minister.

Laura: A birth record on file in the Cass County Government Building in Logansport, Indiana, for a female who must have been Reba Stewart, Laura E.'s daughter (book H-10, p. 10), shows the mother's name as "Laura Gargiver." The record of her marriage to Charles L. Stewart, however, on file in the Cass County Government Building (book 16, p. 108), clearly shows her name as "Laura Gangwer," the name she acquired by her first marriage.

Note 2 Both Patrick Maloney and Cheryl Levine, on their Ancestry.com Web sites, list James Edwards' place of death as Mechanicsville, Illinois. There is a Mechanicsville in Pennsylvania, but in Illinois the town is Mechanicsburg.
