Green & Gold Cookery Book

The Green and Gold Cookery Book was started as a fund raiser for King's College. It was first published in 1923

The school community and others contributed recipes, household & laundry hints, remedies and other miscellaneous

information.

For those of us who are lucky to have one of these books handed down from our mother or grandmother etc.,

we know what a great little cook book they are and many women still use them in preference to many other cook

books in our collections. It is hard to come by the early editions today unless one is lucky enough to get one at a

garage sale, second hand or goodwill shop. There is a 1999 published 75^th Anniversary edition which is available.

As a genealogical source I thought it could be useful, or at least interesting for researchers, being somewhat different

from the normal historical records that are held in our libraries etc.

Note, many recipes have a name only or name and Suburb/Town only.

Only on occasion were street addresses included in the book.

I am not including the actual recipes because of the huge task that it would involve, instead I will just include the

type of recipe/remedy/hint that was submitted. A lot of ladies submitted more than one recipe but for the main part

I have only listed one. A couple of men are also listed as contributing recipes.
