JOHN [GOVE], brazier, Charlestown. Of St. Giles Cripplegate, London, he m. 6 Feb. 1630-1 MARY SHARD (HUMPHREY, clothworker), in the par. where she was bap. 25 Feb. 1609-10, St. Nicholas Cole Abbey. Assisted by loan of £3 from Socy. for Propagation of the Gospel, repaid here, he bro[ugh]t his fam. over and bo[ugh]t in Charlest. in Sept. 1647, his first record here, tho ch. warden accts., St. Nich. Cole Abbey, 1642, show £3 loaned to help transport his two ch. to N. E.; same accts. 1644, 6d. paid for making JOHN GOVE's bond; 1647, 6s. 8d. paid for MARY GOVE's lodging for two months. Will 22 Jan. 1647-8–13 Apr. 1648, gives dau. Mary to RALPH MOUSALL and w., ‘their own ch. forever,’ a silver porringer to Ralph M. and £5 out of the ho.; 50 s. each to two sons, out of brass in his ho. or to come out of Eng.; residue to w. Debts from 3s. to £5, some in Duxbury and Dedham.

 

In 1653 JAMES ASTWOOD's est. (Suff.) was indebted to Mr. J. G. Wid. m. 2d John Mansfield, goldsmith, Charlest., by whom she had twins, ag. 8 in 1656, John Mansfield, put out to his aunt Mrs. Robt. Keayne, Elizabeth Mansfield, put out to Rev. Saml. Whiting. She was [p.279] ±64 in Dec. 1671. Aft. J. M. d. in Charlest. 26 June 1674, she liv. with s. Edw. in Hampt. and d. there 4 Mar. 1681-2, Old Widow M. Gove ch.: JOHN [GOVE, Jr.], Cambridge, bp. St. Botolph's, London, 25 Mar. 1631-2, m. 1st MARY ASPINWALL, 2d MARY WOODHEAD, 3d 2 Dec. 1700 ELIZABETH (SANDERS) (BATSON 1) Walden. He d. 24 Dec. 1704; she liv. 1725. 6 + 4 ch. Ensign JOHN(2) [GOVE], apprent. to Wm. PARTRIDGE. Carpenter and built a house north of his father's, burned in 1913, the site now marked by a monument with names of owners 1713-1913, all Goves. He was implicated, in the Rebellion, convicted of treason, and pardoned, partly thru Wm. PARTRIDGE, who promised work on Gov. CRANFIELD's ho. in consid. of his pardon. Jury 1694; Constable 1696-97; six times Selectm. 1698-1712. Soldier 1708, called Ensign 1709. Lists 55a, 63, 64, 392b. In 1734 he ptn. for relief against a deed his son had obtained from him clandestinely. Adm. 15 Oct. 1737 to Jos. Norton.
