Note on Husband: William * DEINCOURT

He was the 9th Lord Deincourt, succeeding his grandfather at the age of 26. On October 17, 1346 he was one of the commanders at the Battle of Neville's Cross near Durham, where King David of Scotland was taken prisoner. On October 20, 1346 he received a letter of thanks from King Edward III (reigned 1327-1377), who was in Calais, France, at the time, but Queen Philipppa was at the battle and William was at the head of her guard. (She probably wrote the letter). When John, King of France was captured at Poitiers and taken to England he was under the custody of William. Actually, King John was treated so well in England, that after he was released and went back to France, he returned to England where he died. On May 14, 1347 Willam was commanded to join the king in Calais.
