Note on Wife: Hannah + LAMB
GRANDMOTHER HANNAH (1633-1695) a Housewife a Farmer was born on the twenty-seventh day of December 1633, at Watertown, Massachusetts. At the age of sixteen she married Joseph Knight on the tenth day of December 1649, at Woburn, Massachusetts.Hannah and John lived on their farm at Woburn. Woburn was settled about 1638-40, and in 1642, which was set off from Charlestown and incorporated as a town. The town was chartered as a city in 1888. In the burial ground are the graves of the ancestors of four presidents (Cleveland, Harrison, Pierce and Garfield).Hannah told her children they had to accept responsibility for where they were in life. She told them they could make changes in their life. She told them you're alive. If that doesn't make you happy, consider the alternative. If you often find yourself depressed or feeling hopeless, figure out why and work to correct it. Remember you have at least one person who loves you, Yourself. Your self concept is the combination of your sense of self esteem and self worth. If you keep a strong, positive self concept, making sure you have based it on actual accomplishments and consistency of action, and not ego. To do this start with small projects where you will have success. Then, build on those small steps to an increasingly stronger, positive self concept.Hannah would tell her children that their place in life has purpose and meaning. There are few pleasures in life greater than to feel that the work we do has purpose and meaning. Regardless of the role you play, it is probably more important that you currently believe. Most of us serve others in some way. Simple pleasures are free and they surround us. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets can give joy. Watching children play with wide-open imaginations, turning big boxes into forts, castles and ships can give joy. Seeing others helping others. Taking a walk with a friend. Sharing memories and experiences. Remember, the happier you are with the simple things, the simpler it is to be happy.Hannah would encourage her children by telling them you have a mind bounded only by your preconceptions and opinions. All invention and innovation, comes from the human mind. Everyone can be creative. Think big thoughts. Dream big dreams. Turn your world upside down. Turn it inside out. Rotate an idea 180 degrees, and look at every belief from a new perspective. The inner frontiers of your mind are boundless. Enjoy exploring it. Write a poem, Write a story. Invent a gadget that solves a problem that annoys you. You can do it. Give it a try.Hannah would remind her children, that we all decide what our perception will be. And through that decision, we decide whether or not we will be happy.Hannah at the age of sixty-two died on the thirteenth day of January 1695, at Woburn.8
