Note on Husband: Lawrence + SMITH

Lawrence SMITH emigrated before 1634. He was Associated with 8 others who "conducted the affairs of the town" on 28 Oct 1634 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony.(8113) Homan (616) points out that the life of Lawrence SMITH is hard to decipher from that of two other SMITHs who resided in early Dorchester: Henry and Quartermaster John (who also had a wife Mary). He Purchased a house and 23 acres of land (in 3 lots) from Thomas OLIVER on 27 Mar 1650 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony. (8114) The house was located adjacent to his existing house and that of Henry WITHINGTON, another direct ancestor. SMITH agreed to pay OLIVER £54 in four installments of corn and cattle. He was SMITH called a meeting of Dorchester inhabitants to write out a court order in 1652 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony.(8115) For this warning, SMITH was paid £1.10s. Holan (1616) suggests that this showed SMITH was quite an influential man in Dorchester. He was Appointed, with Edward Clapp (another relation), a viewer of fences on 13 Feb 1653 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony.(8116) He was Served as town surveyor on 28 Mar 1653 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony. (8117) He was Served as supervisor of highways on 4 Dec 1654 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony.(8118) He was Served as town baliff on 7 Nov 1657 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony. (8119) He was Served as town surveyor (again) in 1659 in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony. (8120) He died on 3 Oct 1665 in Dorchester, Suffolk, MA. (8121) Died after a long illness but left no will. Parents: John SMITH and Dorothy.

He married to Mary CLEGG about 1640 in Massachusetts.(8122) That her surname was GLEGG was taken from the IGI. Children were: Mary SMITH, Rebecca SMITH, Elizabeth SMITH, Anna SMITH.
