GEE FLAT CEMETERY, BATH NB

The Gee Flat Cemetery is off Hwy 105 at the very edge of Bath NB. This area is the original home of most if not all DeMerchant's.

Access to the graveyard is through a very small road or by walking on the abandon railroad track.

The above picture is taken from the tracks. Most of the stones in the near picture facing the track are all DeMerchants. After examining the area one might conclude more DeMerchant's are buried here in unmarked graves,or perhaps the wooden markers once used, have rotted away leaving no trace of their identity.

ROBERT DeMERCHANT
DIED
JAN 22, 1885
IN THE 82ND YEAR OF HIS AGE.

Robert DeMerchant was the son of John DeMerchant/Cuffman.

SARAH
WIFE OF
ROBERT DeMERCHANT
DIED
AUG 16, 1890
AGE 84 YEARS

Asleep in Jesus blessed sleep,
From which none ever wake to weep.

Sarah's maiden name was Gee. Robert and Sarah purchased their farm from her brother Thomas in 1828.

Thomas had received the land for his service in the Army during the War of 1812. He was in the 104th (New Brunswick) Regiment. Many of his Regiment sacrificed their lives to defend British North America against the American aggressors.

The third tombstone to the left is Sarah's. The fourth tombstone to the left is Robert's. All of the tombstones in that line and the small little ones in front are DeMerchant's.

JOHN DeMERCHANT

SEPT 4, 1867
AGED 87 YEARS

Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his Saints

This marker is in the Pomphrey Cemetery in Upper Wicklow NB. It is almost in sight of the Beechwood Hydro-Electric Dam.

This is most likely John Jr DeMerchant but I have problems with this stone.

Larlee Creek Free Will Baptist Church

Minnie and Letitia were sisters, who married brothers. Letitia died 7 years before Minnie married.

Charles DeMerchant was the youngest son of John DeMerchant/Cuffman. He moved to Blaine, Maine circa 1848 and would die here in 1881. Charles and his wife Lucy had 4 girls, no boys. This stone is located in the Tapley Cemetary Blaine, Maine.
