Walter Benjamin Jett, born July 15, 1884 and died at age 62 on January 11, 1947 at the Mt. Alto Hospital, Veterans Hospital, 2650 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. At his death there were 2 surviving brothers, Ernest Jett and Thornton Jett (born 1862 and married to Ada with occupation listed as elevator operator) and a sister Alice Collins, all of Washington, DC. Walter Jett’s father, per his death certificate, was William Henry Jett of Washington, DC and his mother was Elizabeth Brewer of Virginia. The minister officiating at the funeral held at Pumphries Funeral Home in Silver Spring was Rev. Harold B. Wright. Walter is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Section Sylva Site 216 on January 15, 1947. In World War I he enlisted in the Navy in the Navy and was discharged as a Machinists Mate, 2nd Class on the USS North Pole on April 13, 1918 in New York. Walter was a Licensed Steam Engineer with the U.S. Government, Federal Works Agency. He was a DC native and lived in Washington, DC until 1929 then he and his wife moved to White Oak and lived there 18 years. Walter and Achsah met while both were working at Mt. Alto Hospital, she as a nurse and he on the maintenance staff. Walter was also a good musician and played piano part time in DC clubs and bars. Later in life, he was very active in the VFW Post in Silver Spring and their various charities. I have only found him appearing in one Census, 1900 in Washington, DC, and in that he was listed as Walter B. Jett, age unknown, single, boarder in the home of Charles & Rosa Robinson, occupation Marine engineer.

Achsah Louise Duvall [Parents] was born on 28 Dec 1903 in Montgomery County, Maryland. She died on 5 Jun 1968 in Takoma Park, Maryland. She was buried in Wesley Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Woodfield, Montgomery County, Maryland. She married Walter Benjamin Jett.

Achsah was a licensed practical nurse and worked as both a private nurse and at several area hospitals, first Mt. Alto Hospital in Washington, DC and later at the Washington Sanitarium & Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland. One of her private patients for many years was a paraplegic woman in Washington, DC who learned to write and paint with water colors holding the pencil/paint brush in her mouth. For 18 years she lived with her husband Walter at their home in White Oak, Silver Spring, Maryland, then moved to a home in Burtonsville, Maryland for several years, then apartments in Takoma Park, Maryland and for the last year and a half of her life she lived with her daughter, Thelma Louse Smith in Kensington, Maryland. Achsah had a heart attack at home and died at the Washington Sanitarium & Hospital in Takoma Park where she had worked for many years. She is buried in the graveyard at the Wesley Grove United Methodist Church in Woodfield, Maryland, Montgomery County, Maryland, along with many other family members.
