OBITUARY OF

RACHAEL (BURNS) FOWLER


Portland, Me., April 24 - A private wire to this city tells of the tragic death of Mrs. Rachael Fowler, a native of Gagetown (N.B.), who died at Houlton (Me.). She was living with her son, Harry Fowler, and was last seen alive preparing dinner in the family kitchen. A little later her dead body was found on the floor. It is thought that she was seized with heart failure and fell dead. At one time the deceased conducted a large hotel, but was burned out some years ago. Mrs. Fowler is well known in New Brunswick as a woman of a big heart and a generous nature.

Mrs. Rachel Fowler, widow of C.H. Fowler, died suddenly at her home on Powers avenue (sic) at 11 o'clock Tuesday. Mrs. Fowler apparently was in her usual health and had looked after the cooking of the dinner. After draining the potatoes her son with whom she lived, asked what was the trouble, as he noticed she looked pale. She did not answer but walked to a chair near the kitchen window and sat down. She died immediately. Mrs. Fowler who had many friends, moved to Houlton 35 years ago. For 23 years she conducted a boarding house on a large scale in the old Music hall building. Mrs. Fowler was honest in all her dealings, and always tried to help others. During her business career she was twice burned out.

She leaves two sons, William and Harry, two brothers and two sisters, beside hosts of friends.
