A land grant was issued to him 10 Oct 1839 for the following land: the West half of the South West quarter of Section 20, in the Township twelve North of Range twelve West in the District of lands subject to sale at Palestine, Illinois, containing eighty acres.

Mrs. Bertha Albin became the postmaster of Elmwood post office on September 15, 1927 and served until her death in 1938. James A Albin was given the appointment on March 20, 1938. Soon after Mr. Albin's appointment, the office was moved to the present site of Elmwood at the intersection of highways 270 and 3, a location known as Hibb's Corner. James was called into the Navy so he was replaced in 1947. . The 1900 census gives her birth date as August, 1891, but her grave marker gives her birth year as 1892. She appeared on the census of 1900 in the household of John Abner Russell and Hannah Handley at Brocton, Edgar County, Illinois. She and Robert Porter Albin appeared on the census of 1930 at Elmwood Township, Beaver County, Oklahoma.
