Obituary of Hannah Patterson Hanley

Hannah Patterson was born in Dayton county, Ohio, Jan. 16, 1828, died and in Dolson township, Clark county, Oct. 12, 1904, age 76 years, 8 months and 26 days. She moved to Edgar county with her parents when she was 8 years old where she resided until Aug. 1900, when she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. J. B. Massey, in Dolson township, by whom she was tenderly cared for until death releaved her.
Deceased was married to David Hanley May 5, 1842. The union was blessed with 12 children. The husband, one son and three daughters preceeded her to the spirit world. The following children survive her: Mrs. Savilla Jump of Brocton, Mrs. Caroline Copher of Baxter Springs, Ark., Leander Hanley of Greenwod, Okla., Henry Hanley of Bond, Okla, Thos. R. Hanley of Brocton, Mrs. J. B. Massey of Doldon township, Mrs. Lizzie Russell of Arkansas City, Kan., Mrs. Hannah Russel of Greenwood, Okla.
She was converted and joined the M. E. church 51 years ago last April and has ever since been a zealous, consistent member of the church and Christian. Part of the time of convenience of location she belonged to the United Brethern church. Bible reading was always a great delight to her especially since her afflictions prevented her from attending church.
Her sufferings were long and severe but she bore them with Christian patience and often expressed a desire to depart and be at rest. To the very last she cherished a fond hope of heaven. Her last words were "Fly away, fly away to Jesus." Besides the above named relatives there are 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many other friends and relatives who mourn the loss of a dear one.
The funeral was preached by Rev. S. O. Stoltz at Pleasant Hill Christian church, Edgar county, from a text of her own selection. "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." (Heb. 4:9)
