Cobbler's Cottage - Next to Cross Farm
Although now converted into a domestic
dwelling, the property behind the left-hand bay window used to be
a cobbler's shop. Many is the time in my own childhood that I would take shoes to be
repaired here. You can
discern the original entrance door (now blocked up) and also an upper window. The cobbler
I used to visit was
called Sam Holmes. I do believe that the Holmes family used to repair shoes there for
several generations.
