Gaius Lulham was born Nov 10, 1832, at Robertsbridge, Salehurst Parrish, Sussex Co., England. His wife Jane Roberts was born in Goodheart, Kent Co., England on Feb. 24, 1839. They both came to America before their marriage in 1856, when, and the ship they were on, and whether they traveled together or not is still being researched. They were married on Mar. 9, 1856 in Carson City, Montcalm Co., MI.
In Gaius' obituary it states he is survived by 2 brother, 2 sisters, and 1 sister in Robertsbridge, Eng. From this information it is possible that Gaius and his siblings came to America together, possibly without their parents which might be why one sister was still in England. Graves for his parents have not been located with the others in MI, another reason to believe the siblings came without their parents.
It is in Carson City, MI where their 7 children were born and raised. The first born was named Gaius William Jr. He was 7 years old when he lost his sight, possibly a farming accident, details are not known by this researcher at this time.
After Gaius' death Jane remarried to Timothy O'Callahan. She is buried next to Gaius in Carson City Cemetery, Carson City, MI.
