I believe that Berryman Absher was the father of my ancestor, Mary Jane Absher. Mary Jane married John Travelstead in 1849 in Sumner County, Tennessee. She was living next door to B. Abshire, who has to be Berryman Absher, born about 1810 in Kentucky. Berryman Absher was the son of John Absher and his wife Nancy Barnhart. Berryman was the brother of Mary Absher. Mary had about 8 children, including Litle Absher, but no husband. Litle was the grandfather of Dr. Lee Alton Absher, who wrote the book, "Some Early Settlers of Upper Sumner County, Tennessee. Litle's wife was Mahala Durham, the daughter of James Durham and Lydia Gillespie, and the younger sister of my ancestor, Polly Ann Durham that married James David Graves. Polly Ann's oldest son, James Carroll Graves, married Rebecca E. Travelstead, who was the oldest child of John Travelstead and Mary Jane Absher.

TRAVELSTEAD William C. Travelstead, a farmer and ordained minister of the Free- Will Baptist Church, was born in Allen County, Ky., in 1833. He is the youngest of three surviving members of a family of eleven children born to Frederick and Mary (Burton) Travelstead. His father, who was of German descent, was born in North Carolina about 1785, and his mother, who was of Irish descent, was born near Charleston, S.C., several years later than her husband. After marriage they moved to and located in Sumner County, Tenn., but soon moved to Allen County, Ky., where nearly all of their children were born. There Frederick Travelstead following farming until about 1853, when he moved to Township 9, Range 5, where he died in about one year. His widow about one year afterward moved to White County, Ill., where she died in 1855. The subject of this sketch was educated in Allen County, Ky. At the age of twenty he left home and began life for himself. When twenty-one he married and moved on the farm formerly owned by his father, where he remained until he was twenty-five, when he also came to Illinois, and soon bought a portion of the farm on which he is still residing, in Section 8, Township 9, Range 5. He wife was Nancy. Were Frederick and Mary (Burton) Travelstead the parents of John Travelstead?
