Roane County Court Minutes (located in the new {current} courthouse): April 20, 1815, The State versus Caleb Wood: This day came as well the State by her Attorney Thomas Emmerson, Esquire, and the Defendant in his proper person, and therefore came a jury to wit: (long list of hard-to-read names), who being elected and sworn will and truly (several unreadable words) a true verdict give. According to the evidence, do say the defendant is guilty of the assault in the Bill of Indictment charged but that he is not guilty of the battery wherefore the court assesses his fine to fifty cents. Whereupon Gilbreath Bartow and William Morgan appeared in open court and confessed Judgment for the fine and cost. Therefore it is considered by the court that the State of Tennessee recover against the Defendant and Gilbreath Bartow and William Morgan the fine assessed by this court and the cost (can^Òt read this word) behalf expended.
