Group 2 -Thompson P Ege Groupings

Discussion:  These participants tie their lineage to Dodsons covered in the Thompson P. Ege book.

Project Needs:  Confirmation DNA tests from Dodsons covered by the Ege book.

Charles/Calvert County/Prince Georges, MD Dodsons – Maryland b.  pg. 330:

Ege makes this grouping based on 3 early wills in Charles and Calvert Counties of Maryland.  Ege says John Dodson, Sr. settled in Charles County and John Dodson, Jr. settled in Calvert County.  However, the 1733 tax list of Charles County shows both a John Dodson, Sr. and John Dotson, Jr. while in the same year there is a John Dotson attesting to a will in Calvert County.  It seems probable that there are unrelated lines of Dodsons in this area by the 1730’s.

Ψ      Participant 6:  Kit # 7474

DNA testing shows that this line is unrelated to other participants except that   Participant 13 is “probably related” with genetic distance of 4.

Ψ      Participants 3 and 4:  Kits 17119 and 24573

John Dodson – Eleanor Howard – This family is Ege grouping Maryland c. pg 343

This John Dodson migrated from England in 1771.  He was born 1752 in Shrewsberry, Shropshire, England.  He was a Revolutionary War Soldier on the American side in Maryland.  He married Eleanor Howard and this family migrated to the Cincinnati area in fall of 1795.

Migration Route:  England – Maryland - Ohio

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/r/e/n/Betty-D-Renick/

Project Needs:  Participants that have good lines to Richard Dotson for testing to see if Richard may fit into other lines.  Some brick walls may tie to him.

Group 4 – Dobsons

Discussion:  One Dobson participant.  Showing no close connection to Dodson/Dobson lines.

Project Needs:  Participants to  DNA.  The Dobson lines are expected to be distinct from other lines, but some Dodsons/Dotsons may be closer to the Dobson lines.

v     Dobson

Group 5 – Dodgsons

Discussion:  No participants using the Dodgson spelling.

Project Needs:  Participants to compare DNA.  The Dodgson lines are expected to be distinct from other lines.  However, some Dodsons/Dotsons may have evolved over time from the Dodgson spelling.

v     John Dodgson migrated from England to Greene County, Illinois about 1820.  Several sons followed also born in England.
