The following was written by Mark_
In June/July 1993 I sailed on my 27ft. trimaran with a companion across 800 miles of open ocean from Newport R.I. to Bermuda and back.It took about 4 days each way which involved crossing the 80 mile wide Gulf Stream which would have been hazardous if the wind had been blowing against the current. We experienced strong winds during one night and morning when the waves, by our estimate, reached 14ft., otherwise the winds were quite manageable enabling us to set the spinnaker some of the time.We saw a whale that fortunately was swimming away from us and a half a dozen ships some of whom we communicated with via VHF radio.
One morning, in light winds, we caught up to another sailboat whom I tried raise on the VHF but without responding he started his motor and disappeared into the haze, we never saw him again. We think that he was not sure of our intentions, which, of course, were honorable. On another occasion we were approaching the major shipping lanes into New York during the night when Albert, who was on watch, awakened me to tell me we were on a collision course with a ship, despite negative reponse on the radio and shining our million candlepower spotlight on our sails and even directing the light toward the ship he was coming closer veering away at the last moment which is just as well because he would never realize he ran us down.
All in all a great passage but not without serious risk.

Eulogy - by Catherine Morrow
19 May 2016, Little Current, Ontario

As I stand here today, I would like to thank you for coming for I know many have travelled a far distance to be with us. My name is Catherine, I am Mark’s daughter.

Losing my father was not only a shock but also one of the most difficult things I have had to endure. I am very fortunate to have had the pleasure of knowing him as my father. He was hardworking and he was so proud of his children. He loved his three children and Rachel very much.

However, he was no angel by any means or stretch of the imagination. Often times when I would go to my Grandparents’ house in Wakefield, my grandma would reminisce of all the mischevious things my father would do as a teenager and I couldn’t wait to hear more the next time I would see her. Like the time she told me that my dad told her what the acronym for STOP was. He told her it meant “Spin Tires on Pavement”. He was so cheeky Grandma would say “Oh Mark”. On the other hand, the time when Mickey would say he ruined another pillow case because he would wear Brylcreamon his hair to pretend he was Elvis Presley.

I remember the times my dad and I would dance to the song “Ready Teddy” together. Oh, how he loved Elvis and Rachel Welch. He thought she was the bomb.

My father had such pride and he showed his love and strength right up until his passing.

I hope one day, when I pass away, my children will tell funny stories about me and tell about how much I loved them and Jamie, just like this.

Rest in Peace, Dad. Love you.
