SYKES/SIKES 

The Sykes name is sometimes shown as Sikes, etc. Richard Sykes originally from England, is found as a freemen in Springfield, Mass. on May 13, 1640 after moving from Dorchester in 1639. He was married to Phebe and died in March, 1676.

Phebe and Richard Sykes had the following children:

Victory (Vicary) - March 3, 1649
James - June 11, 1651

All four sons swore allegiance at Springfield, Mass. on December 31, 1678 or the next day. Following my line of ancestors is as follows:

Victory (Vicary) Sykes (03/03/1649 - 1708) first married Elizabeth Burts (--1683) daughter of Jonathan Burts and Elizabeth Lobdell on January 29, 1673. They had the following children:

Jonathan - December 16, 1673 died soon
Jonathan - July 17, 1675
Elizur - December 11, 1677 died as infant
Abel - February 24, 1679 died as infant
Samuel - March 03, 1680
Benjamin - October 16, 1682 died as infant
Ebenezer - September 24, 1683 in Suffield CT. died as infant

Second marriage to Elizabeth Granger (--1692) daughter of Lancelot Granger and their children:
John - May 18, 1685 died 1686
Vicary - November 09, 1686 died as infant
Vicary - September 05, 1689

Third marriage to Mary Prichard Trumbull, widow of Judah Trumble, on December 22, 1692. No children listed.

Jonathan Sykes (July 17,1675 --) married Mary Lane and their children are:

Jonathan - October 24, 1708 in Suffield, Ct.

Jonathan (1708 --) married Mary Adams (02/17/1716/17 -03/18/1758) daughter of Jacob Adams and Mercy Gillet on January 01, 1735/1736. Their children are:

John Sykes - August 25, 1753 in Suffield, CT. died July 25, 1839 in Herkimer, NY was married May 11, 1780 in Marlborough, VT. to Lucy Harvey (08/26/1764-08/21/1856). Their children all born in Vermont are:

Jonathan Harvey Sykes (02/24/1787 - 03/31/1864) married Phoebe Cranwell (1789-05/09/1837) in Vermont. Their children are:

Harvey Sykes (11/04/1823-06/06/1906) first married to Betsy (Elizabeth) Wilsey (1825/1826 - 02/20/1865) in 1846. Their children are:
