Durell.JPG (10148 bytes)        Durell Drake, born 18 May 1900, was the son of Solomon Drake and Susan Mobley.  He died 17 September 1953 in Bristol, Tennessee.  His family descends from Benjamin Drake, who is buried in the Drake's Cliff (a.k.a. Fitzsimmons') Cemetery in Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee.  Durell's great-grandfather, Ephraim Drake moved from Tennessee to Cherokee County, Alabama before 1840.  Durell's family surnames include:  Drake, Mobley, Brown, Murray, Adamson(e), Pennington, Spiers and Coates.

Mabel Robinson, born 25 June 1905, was the daughter of Thomas Hawkins Robinson and Mary Elizabeth Thornsbury.  She died 14 November 1995.  In a conversation I had with her in her home days before she died, she told me that she was happy and ready to die, she had lived to see her grandchildren grown and the Braves win a World Series.  What more could she ask for?  Her family descends from Samuel Robinson of Russell County, Virginia.  Samuel moved from Virginia to Pike County, Kentucky before 1840.  Mabel's family surnames include:  Robinson, Thornsbury, Adkins, Hopkins, Justice and Thacker.

Durell and Mabel were married 25 September 1924 in Pike County, Kentucky by Mabel's grandfather, Elder George W. Robinson.  The background picture on this page is the Greasy Creek Old Regular Baptist Church of Jesus Christ, where Elder Robinson served for many years.

The ancestor trees found at the links below were created in Front Page using tables and table borders.  In Front Page, they look really nice but they don't translate to the browsers very well.  It seems that (unfortunately) Microsoft Explorer handles the formatting better than Netscape, although Netscape 6 does better than Netscape 4.7.
