S. valuation, $135,898. Was a part of No. 8. Named for Dedham, Mass. First settled in 1810, by Nathan Phillips. The "colony" settlement, for years, was known as "New Boston." The "colonists" were accused of "putting on airs." It is a "hard road to travel." Its highways are very expensive, as the Bangor and Ellsworth mail stages pass over several miles of its road, 1,304 times a year.
