A Weak Case
Annie Hobbs, otherwise known as Fairminer, servant of Stroud, Petersfield, was charged with embezzling 2s. 3d., the money of her employer, .James Smith, confectioner.—During the months of June and July prisoner was sent to a grocer's shop to purchase articles for Mrs. Smith, and it was alleged that although the money was given to her to pay for them, she instructed the clerk to book the orders. In due time the bills were presented and Mrs Smith then declared that the goods had already been paid for.
After hearing the evidence the Magistrates expressed an opinion that the case was not sufficiently strong to warrant conviction and accordingly discharged the accused.
