Narrative

31/3/1838 Sydney Gazette:
On Tuesday afternoon a person named Henry Fairmanner alighted from the coach at Blackwells public-house, at the corner of Goulbourn-street, on Brickfield Hill, when he met a female with whom he entered the house ; they were presently joined by a man, and continued drinking together. When they separated, Fairmanner searching his pockets on his way home, discovered the loss of his pocket book containing £30 in cash, a £5 order, and a 30s. order, together with some receipts of importance.
The parties have since been apprehended and were examined before the Police Bench on Thursday ; the prosecutor, however, either through stupidity or a desire to screen the delinquents, so grossly prevaricated in giving his evidence that, the parties were discharged from custody.
