Studland, Dorset
Visit of Captain A.V.Hambro to Studland.
An event of great interest to the Conservative party in Studland was the visit of Captain Angus V Hambro, who met his constituents for the first time in the spacious barn of Messrs Horlock Bros. The chair was taken by Colonel Anderson who urged them to form their own political opinions.
He then introduced the hon. member who was received with enthusiasm, the large audience rising and lustily singing "For he's a jolly good fellow". Captain Hambro in the course of his speech, emphasised the necessity for everybody to work and produce to the utmost of their capacity, as the only panacea for high prices.
Questions were invited but the only one put, was by an ex-police-constable and the member promised to give the matter mentioned his consideration.
Having apologised to the audience for taking his departure early, owing to an appointment at Langton, he tendered his thanks to Mesdames Fairminer, Ryall, Miss Winzar, Messrs Horlock, Smith, Ryall and Guppy for the admirable decorations.
The company was afterwards entertained by Professor Longstaff, conjurer and ventriloquist.
Others contributing to the programme were - Mrs Ryall, Mrs J Fairminer, Miss Winzar the Misses Clark, Miss L Clark, Mr Maitland, Mr H Clark, Lieut. Reginald Fairminer and Mr Smith.
The remainder of the evening was devoted to dancing, under the supervision of Mesdames Fairminer and Loveless, who made efficient M.C.'s. The accompanist at the piano was Miss Hilda Neale.
Light refreshments were served by Mr Masters.
After a hearty vote of thanks had been accorded Colonel Anderson for presiding and Messrs Horlock for the use of their premises, the proceedings terminated.
