Michal Hrankowski

Birth Name Michal Hrankowski 1a 2a 1b

I have his birth Certificate in my possession and of particular interest on it there is a notation in Latin under his birth parents "uterque nobiles haeves honorum". I believe this confirms that they were Nobles in Europe and confirms what my brother and I were told as children.

    Army name, Michael Henry Hankowsky
[You will recall that I told you that the family often called Michael "Hank" probably short for "Hank"owski. When he joined up they probably asked him if he had another name and I imagine he would have said HANK. They looked in the book and noted (Hank was a nickname for Henry and voila he became Henry.) My theory anyway.] from Joe Hanks

Immigration before 1948   Date unknown from Canada to England

I would think though there should be a record of his returning to England permanently from Canada in late 1945 or 1946. I recall him being in Canada after the war. I believe he may have been in dispute with his mother over part of his army pay while he was overseas.

Jacob was a Roman Catholic (Holy Ghost Church) I was told he got mad at them and the whole family converted to Anglicanism. I was raised an Anglican. After I joined the force [R.C.M.P.] , St Barnabus Church in Winnipeg built a new building. My mother donated a pew to my father and Alice [Helena] donated a pew to her husband Joe Kitkoski.

Years later after my mother died I donated a stained glass window to that church in her memory and Alice [Helena] donated a window to the Hankowski family.

Narrative

Whilst searching for possible relatives of my son-in-law I came across an reference to a Michal Hankowski attributed to yourself.

It appears that Michael Hankowski married in 1942 and has at least one daughter by this marriage.

The father of my son-in-law (Eric Hankowski) was in the German military and taken prisoner during WW2. He has resided in the UK since the end of WW2 since he was unable to return to his home having been born in Prussia which was annexed to Poland after the war.

I was wondering if you have any more information about Michael.
