Narrative

Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 10 June 1910

The members of the Hatherleigh Union Benefit Society have just celebrated the 143th anniversary of the Club.
The male branch was formed in 1763,.and the female branch thirty years later, The former branch has 159 members, and an accumulated capital of over £1,600. Club Day was celebrated in the usual way. The local band played, the church bells rung, and the members went in procession to church. Dinner followed. The members roll was called, the reports and balance-sheets submitted, and after business came pleasure.
The annual event is looked forward to and much enjoyed.
