I am thinking that because she is in that area with her young son,
maybe he was ‘taken’ from her (which would not be unusual)
or she ‘gave’ him up and he ended up as a Home Boy.
It is interesting that my Thomas George is showing his mother as Elizabeth Gibs(e/o)n

Distances are vast in this part of the world.
Putting things into prospective Assiniboia would have been fairly close to the route taken by the North West Mounted Police (forerunner of the RCMP) in their march west in 1874.
.....I can’t imagine that area building up much in 17 years.
That area in my opinion would have been named after the song “O give me a home where the Buffalo roam”.

If your cousin was there in that era he would have been a true pioneer.

Narrative

Home Boys

Between 1869 and the late 1930s, over 100,000 juvenile migrants were sent to Canada from Great Britain during the child emigration movement. Motivated by social and economic forces, churches and philanthropic organizations sent orphaned, abandoned and pauper children to Canada. Many believed that these children would have a better chance for a healthy, moral life in rural Canada, where families welcomed them as a source of cheap farm labour and domestic help.

After arriving by ship, the children were sent to distributing homes, such as Fairknowe in Brockville, and then sent on to farmers in the area. Although many of the children were poorly treated and abused, others experienced a better life here than if they had remained in the urban slums of England. Many served with the Canadian and British Forces during both World Wars.

Narrative

Thomas George Worden Trenaman – went looking to see if there were Worden families in Hatherleigh and yes, indeed there were. Found the 1861 Census showing a William and Mary Worden in the area, with a family, including a son named William Worden … I zeroed in on William because of his age … he was b. 1848 … so thinking our Elizabeth was b. 1854 … maybe he is the one who fathered her child … so then I went looking to see when this William Worden died … and look … he died Jan. 1876 Okehampton … and our Thomas George Worden Trenaman was born July 1876 … his mother Elizabeth Trenaman would have just found out or shortly after that death, that she was pregnant … what do you think of that hypothesis? I’m thinking it is possible, because one of the things my husband’s grandmother Lizzie (Trenaman) Findlay told me was that his father died young and left his mother alone. All of this is too coincidental.
From Thelma Findlay, 14.01.2012

Narrative

Assiniboia was a large area of Saskatchewan for a period of time, and Moosomin was within that district.  Moosomin is actually a larger town – and at the time, would have been the “big” town to go to do business.  Moosomin was a gateway to the west—to Saskatchewan and beyond westerly.  Major post office; train line; etc.  Pulled out my local history book on the Moosomin area and found Ard Bell “Ard Howatt Bell homesteaded north-east of Moosomin.  He came from Ontario in 1884, with his brother William and sister Mary.  He homesteaded SE 12-14-30, then later owned the rest of the section.  The east-side of this land was the road allowance between Saskatchewan and Manitoba.”

This is likely the “BELL __ FARM” that T.G.W.T. was employed at.  And is quite likely how he managed to meet Clara and eventually marry her (her family living in the same area).

But I am noting a rather large industrial farm called Bell Farm at Indian Head, Saskatchewan which is quite a bit of a distance north-west of Moosomin, Saskatchewan.  It appears this could also possibly be where T.G.W.T. worked.  Would need to do more research to see exactly where he helped out, i.e., which farm!

Bell Farm (Indian Head, Saskatchewan)
wikipedia.org
States "the company settled more than 100 tenant farmers"
That could explain the "S" on Farms, also why it is name "Bells G*** Farms" [The middle "G***" marking it out from all the other Bells Farms]
But you will know more about the location compared with the "School Report". - Les Treneman 17.02.2012
