82. James Rolff (February 16, 1998). Research Letter. James Rolff stated he speculated this relationship for the following reasons; Records of John and Mary Fields are full of Scales names. Joseph Scales, brother of Elizabeth Scales, names a son , Henry Scales (alias Henry Gibson), in his Will. And lastly, in the "History of Kentucky, Illustrated" there is a biography of Hiram Strong, son of Thomas Strong and Annie Fields. In this biography he named the parents of his mother as John and Mary Fields, which is correct, but then he stated that Mary fields was a Scales. James Rolff states that Hiram Strong confused his grandmother and great grandmother.
