William Gordon was the 4th of Sheepbridge in the Parish of Newry, County Down, Ireland. He was a Justice for County Down. William raised and organized the Sheepbridge Volunteers in 1782 and was its captain. This Volunteer Movement preceded the Irish Rebellion of 1798. He attempted unsuccessfully to spin linen yarn and was known as an ardent hunter and horseman. [1], [2]
