The following letter was among papers found in the Van Leer writing
box which Marjorie B. Winter inherited. She has tried to transcribe
it exactly with spelling and grammar errors included. Marjorie's
great-grandparents were John Franklin Van Leer, Jr. and Mary Rutter
Bullock. Mary was a sister to Elizabeth Ann Bullock who married
Samuel Talley. This letter opens a wonderful window into the personal
lives of Livingston, Jr. and other family members. Marjorie B.

Dear Uncle: do you know anhything about Uncle Art Gimkens. (earlier
ref. To Jenkins) I sent him a Xmas present and letter and both
have been returned to me today, and I'm anxious to know where
he is. I addressed him to Trainor, P.O., Pen. How is grandmother
[Elizabeth Ann Bullock Talley] getting along and Aunt Said [Sarah
(Sadie) Matildas Bullock Way].
Write me a good long letter. I am sick in bed and have asked a
friend to write for me. I am in the paint business but just starting
and don't knowo how things will turn out yet but hope to be able
to do a payeing business when we get running right. Tell Charlie,
Will [Charles Lewis Van Leer and William L. C. Van Leer, John's
sons] and all of them to write to me. I want to hear from them
the worst way. Your nephew L. B. Talley per W. E. Fallis
P.S. We have two girls and 3 boys. The baby is 6 weeks old. We
named baby Mary after Aunt Mary [Mary Rutter Bullock Van Leer].
As soon as I can get a photo of the family I will send you one.

LIVINGSTON, daughter of Unknown LIVINGSTON & Unknown BORDEN,
in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Chester, PA.[123]
Both of Linwood, PA. Born on 10 Jul 1873 in NJ.[160],[161] Mary Elizabeth died in CA
on 20 Oct 1957; she was 84.[160]

Mary L. Talley Wilson appears to be another of the children
of Livingston Bullock Talley and Sarah (Clark) Talley who referenced
the surname Bullock rather than Talley in later years. A descendant
of Livingston Bullock Talley Jr. remembers a family story about
a dispute between Livingston Jr. and his brothers. Afterward,
according to the story, Livingston Jr. retained the Talley surname
while some of his siblings took the Bullock surname. The following
is found in the California Death Records 1940 thru 1997:
