Town of Beekman
Dutchess County, New York
Updated 4/13/2001
Beekman Cemetery at United Methodist Church
"Beekman, the fastest growing town in Dutchess Co., consists of 30 square miles. Farms are giving way to suburban growth clustered about the centers of Poughquag, Greenhaven, Beekmanville and Clove Valley. Settled by Dutch families, it was one of the county's original towns, established in 1788, named for Patentee Henry Beekman. Charming old farmhouses and lakes that once were ore mines remind us of an earlier economy. Now the town economy is based upon orchards and animal breeding, soil mining, and Green Haven Correctional Facility. Poughquag is the center of government and the town park and recreation center are nearby." From Dutchess County Tourism website.
