Chestnut Ridge Friends Cemetery
The Chestnut Ridge Friends Meeting was organized in 1790 and was extinct
by the time Dr. Poucher recorded the graves in 1913. The abandoned
cemetery is in "Chestnut Ridge", now just a country road intersection,
of Chestnut Ridge (Co Rt 24) and Halls Corners Roads. The internernments
are listed on both Rootsweb and the the Local History Web sites.
The cemetery is on the West side of Chestnut Ridge Road, about 20 yards
before the stop sign and begins about 10 yards into the trees (to the right
of the car with breaklights on). It is NOT visable from the
road. Many gravestones are standing, and I got the impression
that others are down and buried under the leaves. The tree
growth is less than 50 years old. I could not find
the Methodist Ground at Chestnut Ridge. Perhaps it is in the same
grove of trees. The graves date, according to Dr. Poucher,
from 1833 - 1908.
Chestnut Ridge Road (Davis Family) Cemetery
This cemetery is on the west side of Chestnut Ridge road (Co Rt 24), about 0.5miles from the intersection with Rt343. It is much more visable as one travels north on Chestnut Ridge. The grave stones are listed on the Rootsweb cemetery listing, and range from 1805 - 1866..
