Pok Rural Cemetery Just South of City limits
on Rt9
Phone 845-454-6020.   Founded in 1854 (6?).   If you are looking for a City of Pok grave, it's probably now here.  Many of the city's older church yards were removed here.

SE corner of Main and Market 1744 1797 1.  Old Ground,  The yard surrounding the first church building, erected 1723.   Used for burials until 1830.  Per Poucher, Remains removed to vault at rear of present 260 Main St. in 1830.

1792 1795 33 2. The yard surrounding the second church building.  Remains removed to Pok Rural Cemetery
Dutch Reformed North of City line on old Albany post road (near St. Francis Hospital?) 1783 1792 480 3.  Cemetery opened in 1810.  Perhaps these few pre-1810 stones were from a prior existing ground, or moved from another cemetery.  Graves removed to Pok Rural Cemetery
Baptist Churchyard Rear of Garden , High and Mansion Sts  Entrance on Garden 1809 1811 182 In 1911, " Thickly overgrown with saplings and vines; a place of deposit for neighborhood refuse.   The Baptist Church of Poughkeepsie was organized in July, 1807, and this land was acquired shortly after for burial purposes."

1816 1817 49 "In 1922 incorporated into the Poughkeepsie playground.  A Friends' Meeting was organized at Poughkeepsie early in the nineteenth century. In 1821 0.5 acre deeded for burial purposes."  Guessing removed to Pok Rural.
Methodist East side of Jefferson 1810 1811 99 Acquired in 1806 for church bldg.  Torn down in 1826, but land continued as cemetery.  Removed to Pok Rural between 1911 and 1915 and land built upon.
Presbyterian Churchyard South side of Main, opposite Corlies Ave 1825 1826 40 Congregation revived in 1817, organized in 1826.  Land given for burial purposes in 1821.   Removed to Pok Rural since 1911 and land built upon.
St. Peters Roman Catholic East side of East Mansion St. 1839 1842 108 Not yet found   In 1914, "Good. condition" Yard in used from 1841 to 1884 for a number of the 1st generation Irish families..  Church erected 1837 they erected a church building.  New and existing St. Peters cemetery on Salt Point Turnpike in the town of Poughkeepsie.
