Spanswick One Name Study
The SPANSWICK's of SCOTLAND
The Surnames of Scotland by George F Black includes the following entry : "Spanswick, A rare surname in Shetland, of local origin from a small place of the name"
Sadly this does not appear to be the case, the Spanswick surname is indeed a very rare in Scotland, but the earliest record so far places it at Leith in 1879.

He was William Spanswick, 12 Niddrie Mains Road, and he admitted on two occasions - March 31 and April 28 - recklessly made false statements to the Ministry of Food regarding the number of confectionery points in his possession.
