Wells Family History

 

The Wells families were in Maryland's Eastern Shore, and in Stafford and Prince William Counties in Virginia as early as the mid 1600's. Various members in successive generations were actively involved in exploration and settlementof Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri. There were Wells serving in the Indian wars, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. William Wells became famous in the last part of the eighteenth Century as Indian agent and son-in-law of the Indian Chief Little Turtle.
